Immigrant Artist presents installation in international festivals about migration

Immersive installation brings the idea of a transcultural humanity formed by millenial diasporas

Human mobility is theme for the installation “Transeuntis Mundi” – an immersive work including virtual reality, sound and video installation about the millennial diasporas and migrations that formed a transcultural and transnational humanity. A work that maps human cultural heritage and chose New York as one of the 7 cities presented in the work – exactly for its force representing this blend of cultures and genetics.

The work was on exhibition this last week (from 6th to 15th September, 2019) in the International Festival of Books and Culture (Medellin, Colombia), launching a world tour for this installation. Over 2,500 people visited the artwork during this week. Simultaneously, the work was presented in London (UK) at the conference “Digital Research in Humanities Arts 2019”, which theme was “Radical Immersions”.

The installation is composed by the Brazilian artist and NYC based Cândida Borges and the Colombian Artist Gabriel Mario Vélez. The research that grounds this work is developed by Cândida at Plymouth University (UK) as her PhD thesis and at the Universidade de Antioquia (Colombia), where  Cândida and Gabriel are researchers.

Cândida’s PhD thesis brings to composition the theme of genetic testing for ancestry and artistic creation and it is the first research on this topic. She identified that she carries all ethnicities of humankind, as a Brazilian descendant,  and is developing a research on how transmedia composition responds to this phenomenon. She declares that her experience as an immigrant person and artist in New York brought her interest to create upon transculturalism. A research that combines genetics, social sciences and arts.
